Anan is private by design. Communication — boards, messages, vocabulary, photos, usage insights, learning progress — stays on your device. Using Anan as a communicator never requires an account, and we never sell or share personal information.

On this device only

Optional account & sync (off by default)

If a carer or clinician creates an account, the email address and a random salt are stored on the device; your passphrase is never stored or sent — it is used only on your device to derive your encryption key, and it is unrecoverable by design: if it is forgotten, the encrypted data cannot be read by anyone, including us. That is the privacy guarantee, and it means account recovery by passphrase reset is not possible.

Sync stays off until you sign in — with no account, nothing ever leaves the device. When you sign in, your data is end-to-end encrypted on your device before it is uploaded to our sync service (anan-sync.victor-0b9.workers.dev, operated by Vispire Corp Pty Ltd on Cloudflare). That service stores, per account: your email, an opaque login token (a hash used only to match your device to your stored row — it is not your passphrase and cannot be reversed into it), your random salt, the encrypted bundle (settings, vocabulary, profiles and usage log — which we cannot read), and the time of your last sync. It never receives your passphrase, your encryption key, or any readable content. You can stop syncing and sign out at any time; clearing the app's data removes the account from that device.

Feedback (only if you send it)

If a carer or clinician uses “Send feedback”, we receive the feedback type, any message typed into the feedback box, which app screen it was sent from, and — only if you tick the option — a screenshot of that screen (screenshots are never available on the communication board, so they can never contain the communicator’s words). The app version, account role, plan tier and device platform are attached. This is sent to Vispire Corp Pty Ltd’s feedback service. Feedback never includes vocabulary, messages, photos or usage data from the communication board. It is stored on the device and only sent when the sync service is enabled; clear it anytime by clearing the app’s data.

Natural voices (off by default)

If you switch on online voices, the message text being spoken (up to 600 characters) is sent over an encrypted connection to our voice relay and processed by our speech provider (ElevenLabs) solely to generate the audio, which is then cached on your device. The built-in device voice keeps everything on-device and is always the offline fallback.

Hosting

When online, the app may re-download its own files (static hosting on Cloudflare). The app has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies and no crash reporting.

Children & vulnerable users

Anan is designed for non-speaking and speech-impaired people, who may be children or adults under supported or substitute decision-making. Accounts are created by parents, guardians or carers; the communicator's use of Anan never depends on one.

You are in control

Export your data, or save an encrypted backup, at any time in Settings → Data. Delete everything by removing the app's data in your browser/OS settings, or by uninstalling.

Not a medical device

Anan is an assistive communication tool, not a medical or clinical product, and does not provide medical advice.
